Who is responsible for your information?

Visit Llanelli is a personal, not-for-profit local information website operated by Daniel Williams, the data controller. I do not charge businesses for listings or receive payment for operating the website. Visit Llanelli is independent of local authorities. For privacy questions, corrections or requests, email hello@visitllanelli.co.uk.

Contact, business and event suggestions

General enquiries, feedback, contributions and event suggestions are now handled by email or through the official Visit Llanelli Facebook page. Business suggestions currently use email. The website contact forms and newsletter sign-up have been withdrawn. Public WordPress and Directorist registration are disabled; existing accounts needed to administer the website or manage existing listings are retained for review.

When you contact me, I receive your name, email address or Facebook profile information and the message and attachments you choose to send. For a business or event suggestion, please separate the information intended for publication from your private administration details. Submitter contact information is not published unless you specifically authorise it. Public business details can include a business name, category, location, description, public telephone number, business email, website and social links.

For a home-based business, an area served can be used instead of a private home address. Please do not send sensitive information or unnecessary information about other people, including children. Suggestions are reviewed manually and are not automatically published.

Directory, comments and reviews

The directory and events calendar remain available. Business information may be supplied by a business, its representative or a public source. Contact details for a sole trader or named employee can still be personal information even when published for business purposes. You can ask where information came from, request a correction or object to its use.

Where comments or reviews are available, the contribution and public display name may be visible to other visitors. Moderation, account and technical records may also be processed. Our Comment Policy explains the standards and reporting process. Existing comments and review records have not been deleted as part of this simplification.

Article comments use Disqus, which may process an IP address, browser and device information, page details, cookie identifiers and account information when loaded. Disqus has its own advertising and data-sharing practices: see its privacy policy. Directory functions can also include listing claims, existing user accounts, favourites, reviews and contact features where enabled. Please use only public business contact details for listing enquiries.

Technical information, analytics and optional features

Hosting, security, consent management and directory tools can process IP addresses, browser or device details, requested pages, referral information and activity logs. Google Analytics and Directorist Analytics are present. Directorist Analytics privacy mode is enabled to mask IP addresses in future records, respect Do Not Track requests and exclude administrator visits; its existing raw-log retention setting is 30 days. This does not retroactively mask or erase older records. The information collected depends on their configuration and your cookie choices. Analytics can involve usage events, identifiers, approximate location and browser or device information. Our Cookie Policy explains optional-cookie controls.

The optional web app and push notifications remain available. If you subscribe to notifications, the website stores the browser subscription endpoint and encryption information needed for delivery, with subscription status and related records. Installing the app does not itself mean you have agreed to notifications. Turn notifications off in your browser or device settings to stop delivery.

Social feeds, maps, videos and other embedded services can send technical information to their providers when loaded. Visiting an external link or using Facebook Messenger is also subject to that provider’s privacy terms. Cookie choices on Visit Llanelli do not control activity after you leave the website.

Why information is used

  • Legitimate interests: answering enquiries, reviewing suggestions, maintaining accurate local information, moderating contributions, managing existing accounts and protecting the website. These purposes are balanced against your rights; you may object.
  • Consent: optional tracking or services where consent is requested, and optional push notifications. You can withdraw consent through the relevant cookie, browser or service controls.
  • Legal obligation: responding to applicable legal requirements.

Sending a message is not permission to add you to a mailing list. Personal information is not sold.

Service providers and storage

  • Krystal: website hosting and information stored in the website database, including listings, event content, accounts and technical records. See Krystal’s privacy policy.
  • Email providers: process incoming and outgoing correspondence and attachments. Messages may remain in mailbox folders and provider backups until removed under the applicable retention arrangements. Contact me for details of the provider handling a particular exchange.
  • Meta/Facebook: handles messages sent through the official Facebook page, your profile details and platform activity under Meta’s privacy policy.
  • Google: provides Analytics, Search Console and related site administration tools. See Google’s privacy policy. No business Google Form is currently linked from our submission page.
  • Disqus: provides article comments under its own terms and privacy notice.
  • Mailchimp: the website integration has been disabled and no new website newsletter sign-ups are offered. Historic subscriber records may still be held in Mailchimp while their continuing need, consent and deletion requirements are reviewed. See Mailchimp’s privacy information.

Website administration may involve WPVibe and an AI assistant to inspect or edit relevant content and settings. Their providers may process the information retrieved through those tools. Access should be limited to information necessary for the task; passwords, unrelated private messages and sensitive information should not be included.

Some providers, including Google, Meta, Disqus and Mailchimp, may process information outside the UK. Their processing terms explain locations and applicable transfer arrangements. Contact me to ask about the arrangements relevant to your information.

Retention and closed features

The standalone community posting feature is closed. Its plugin and submission pages are inactive or unpublished, but historic submissions and uploads remain pending a retention review. Newsletter closure and plugin deactivation do not erase historic subscriber data.

Enquiries and private submission details are retained while needed to review and respond, check publication permissions, resolve a complaint or meet a legal requirement. They should be reviewed when the matter is finished, and unnecessary information deleted or anonymised. Public local information can remain useful after private correspondence is no longer needed; these are considered separately. Existing account, review, legacy submission and newsletter records are being reviewed for a continuing purpose rather than retained automatically forever.

Technical logs, consent records and backups follow the relevant service configuration. Copies can remain in protected backups until those backups expire. Retention settings for legacy tools and providers are being checked; please contact me for a review of a particular record. No automatic deletion period should be assumed from the closure of a feature.

Your rights and choices

Depending on the circumstances, you can request access, correction, erasure, restriction, portability or object to use of your information. You can withdraw consent without affecting the lawfulness of earlier processing. Email hello@visitllanelli.co.uk; I may need proportionate information to verify your identity. Requests are normally answered within one month, subject to the extensions and exceptions allowed by law.

You can complain to me and to the Information Commissioner’s Office. This notice does not claim that Visit Llanelli is exempt from the data protection fee or that every privacy requirement has been independently certified.

Changes

This notice will be updated when website processing changes. Updating the notice does not itself provide consent for a new use of personal information.
